What a year it’s been in art class so far! We have been busy creating many beautiful project pieces based on the liturgical season so far. Back in October, we all had the chance to string and paint our own rosary beads. I thought this would be a lovely way to discuss the importance of prayer during the month of the Rosary.
Around advent and Christmas we enjoyed making nativity ornaments and advent candle paintings as well as some star ornaments using sticks and ribbon.
More recently we have sculpted small grottos in celebration of the feast day of Our Lady of Lourdes. As the students worked, we enjoyed a movie about Saint Bernadette and this very special Marian Apparition. Each student took air drying clay and sculpted a small cave structure and placed a tiny Mary statue inside. We painted the grottos and decorated them with silk flowers (thanks to all the parents who donated the silk flowers!). This is by far one of my favorite projects! The students have worked hard for weeks and their creativity reflects through their art pieces.
Closer to the Spring season, we will be working on a large surprise project that will involve each student in the whole school. The final piece will be Spring themed and will be displayed for the Night of the Arts! I am very excited to showcase this collaboration.
Many students have learned new art skills this year and are applying them to everyday class projects – I am so proud of their creativity!
A very special thanks to all the parents who have donated crafty and recycled items to the art room. The students have created these lovely hanging floral ornaments with the paper towel rolls!
