In our fourth grade class, we had a meaningful and educational experience for Ash
Wednesday. We began by watching a video that explained the significance of Ash Wednesday
and the start of Lent. This video helped us understand the traditions and the importance of this
period for Catholics. Following the video we discussed what Lent and Ash Wednesday means
and learned about the three pillars of the season. We learned about prayer, fasting, and
almsgiving. To make this learning more interactive we drew pictures in the Lent journal we
made.
In addition to learning about Ash Wednesday, Lent, and journaling we also sang an Ash
Wednesday song together. This helped us to connect more and opened up a discussion on what
our true intentions are for Lent and how Ash Wednesday can guide us. This learning activity and
discussion has encouraged us to support each other in all of our journeys. Overall, it was a day
filled with learning, creativity, and community spirit.
