The Wizard of Oz Youth Edition

Written by Mrs. Jennifer Morello, Multiage Teacher & Drama Club Director

Lions, and tigers, and bears…oh my! The SPS Drama Club took us “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” in their latest production of “The Wizard of Oz: Youth Edition”. The 3 performances, held on Friday, April 4th and Saturday, April 5th, 2025, were incredibly popular and the students performed to nearly sold out audiences.

“The Wizard of Oz” is a classic tale of friendship, courage, and the power of believing in yourself. Following these ideas, our cast and crew bonded together to put on a truly spectacular show. The cast and crew was composed of almost 50 students, in grades 3 – 8, and featured 6 of our graduating 8th graders; Grace P., Kirsten N., Bridget M., Philip A., Daniel J., and CJ A. Directed by Jennifer Morello, Elizabeth Coffey, Melissa Kuter, Susan Mietus and Mark Gaynor, the students worked together to memorize dialogue, learn dance sequences, and create stunning visual effects. They cheered for each other’s success, encouraged each other, and lifted each other up when lines were forgotten. While their performances were definitely memorable, the friendships created will hopefully last a lifetime.
